Ingredients:

¼ lb. Butter

¼ lb. Sugar

1 Tablespoon treacle
-
2 Tablespoon cocoa
-
3 Eggs
-
2 Cups Flour
-
2 Teaspoons baking powder

¼ lb. Dates, stoned and chopped
-
2 ozs. Sultanas
-
¼ Cup cake crumbs
-
2 Tablespoons milk
Instruction:

Sift dry ingredients together.

Cream butter until smooth and work in half of the flour.

Beat eggs and sugar together well, add half of it to the flour mixture, together with syrup and mix well.

Mix the rest of the flour with the cake crumbs and add to the creamed mixture alternatively with the egg mixture and the milk.

Add dates and sultanas.

Pour into two square pans lined with paper and bake in a moderate oven of 375°F for one hour.

When cold split in half, put in a butter cream filling and cover the top with cream or frosting and decorate with cherries.
